The Scientific Committee has been hard at work to bring you a very stimulating, educational, and innovative program. The theme of the conference is Research-Rehabilitation Partnerships and we look forward to talks and posters from representatives from both areas in order to improve our knowledge of the science and practice of low vision. Building on the solid foundation provided by our predecessors, Vision 2008 will introduce two innovative program components.

The first of these are the R&R Sessions, taking their name from the theme of the conference. Each of the 22 sessions will involve a panel of international experts discussing a specific topic such as Driving with Low Vision, Brain Plasticity and Its Relevance to Visual Training, and Treatment of Depression in Older People with Low Vision. The panels are made up of representatives from both the rehab and research domains. Their mandate is to stimulate and encourage us to think creatively and to engage in a lively debate with them as they discuss the important topics in our field of endeavour.

The second new program component is called the TNG (The Next Generation) Sessions in which we propose to feature the up-and-coming researchers and practitioners by providing an opportunity to introduce themselves and their work to the established members of the Low Vision Community, to meet one another, and to create links that will lead to productive interaction in the future.

We invite you to participate in and contribute to the Scientific Program – it will be even better if you are involved!
