Technical visits

If you want to find out more about what’s going on in the Québec Low Vision Research & Rehabilitation scene, you will be able to do so in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 9. The following six organizations have gladly agreed to open their doors to Vision 2008 participants.
To register
Technical visits are open to all participants and accompanying persons duly registered to the Conference. You just need to indicate your choice on the Registration Form. Only one visit is allowed per person.
Deadline for technical visits registration: May 23, 2008
Places are limited, so book as soon as possible.
Transportation
Information concerning transportation for each of these visits will be announced after May 23, 2008.

The École d’optométrie of the Université de Montréal (ÉOUM) is recognized for its expertise by the general public, professionals and university community alike. It serves as an information and a resource centre well known for the quality of its teaching and clinical services as well as for the excellence, originality and volume of its research activities. The ÉOUM will be happy to familiarize you with its academic programs and provide a tour of its research facilities. The Institut Nazareth and Louis-Braille
The Institut Nazareth and Louis-Braille is a rehabilitation centre providing specialized services to over 8,000 visually impaired persons of all ages. Our multidisciplinary team will guide you through our modern rehabilitation centre, where you will be able to find out more about our services pertaining to low-vision, accessible computer programs, orientation and mobility as well as everyday life activities, adapted to children, adults, seniors and visually and hearing impaired persons. This visit will also lead you to discover the Sensory Stimulation Laboratory for young children, telerehabilitation, the Accessible Information Service where hundreds of books are produced in Braille, electronic and haptic formats, as well as the Technical Aids Service or the Ludothèque which presents a collection of more than 400 toys and games as well as a giant map of the Montréal subway. A visit to the Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille: well worth your while!
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ)
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) is a cultural institution whose mission is to acquire, preserve and disseminate the publications, archival documents and films constituting Québec and Québec-related documentary heritage. BAnQ also offers all Quebecers free access on site, on the Internet and through interlibrary loan to vast universal collections and to the services of a major public library. BAnQ encompasses the Grande Bibliothèque, a preservation centre (Centre de conservation) and nine archives centres in Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, Rimouski, Rouyn-Noranda, Saguenay, Sept-Îles, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivieres.
Department of Ophthalmology of University of Montreal - Michel Mathieu Center
Département d’ophtalmologie de l’Université de Montréal - Centre Michel Mathieu
More than 20 ophthalmology sub-specialists work at the Centre Michel-Mathieu of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, offering therapeutic and surgical services. The Centre’s mission is to offer specialized and subspecialized services, assess new practices and technologies and engage in fundamental and clinical research to further knowledge in the field.
The MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre
The MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre is dedicated to providing quality adaptation, rehabilitation and social integration services to the blind as well as the visually and hearing impaired of all ages and to children with language and motor impairments. It also operates a long-term care centre for blind and visually impaired seniors. A visit to our site will highlight our interdisciplinary early intervention program for children with multi handicaps and our adapted pediatric low vision clinic.
