An invitation to Montréal

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I beckon you all to attend what promises to be the most exciting International Conference on Low Vision yet, Vision 2008 in the most beautiful, quaint, cosmopolitan, European, romantic city in all of North America— Montreal, in Quebec, Canada.

Host institutions the École d’optométrie de l’Université de Montréal and the Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille have planned a unique gala opportunity for us to get together for our triennial meeting. The theme is Research and Rehabilitation (R & R) Partnerships, and the conference will feature many planned symposia highlighting the linkages between research evidence and rehabilitation practice.

Spend a little extra time in Quebec for some of the other kind of R & R (rest and relaxation). Montreal is charming, reasonably priced, and affords abounding tourism opportunities, including the Montréal Comedy Festival, the Montréal Jazz Festival, nearby Quebec City, and serene pastoral destinations along the St. Lawrence River.

Registration is open now, and be sure to take advantage of the generous ISLRR discount to renew your ISLRR membership at the same time!

See you in Montréal in July!

Aries Arditi
President
International Society for Low Vision
Research and Rehabilitation (ISLRR)

In 2008, the 9th International Conference on Low Vision will be held from July 7 to 11 in Montréal, one of Canada’s major cities. The Institut Nazareth & Louis-Braille (a rehabilitation centre specialized in visual impairment) and the University of Montreal’s School of Optometry will oversee the organization of this Conference in partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) under the auspices of the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation (ISLRR).

The Organizing Committee is already at work to make this conference both informative and entertaining. The Conference will feature plenary and concurrent sessions during which distinguished academics, researchers, and practitioners will present the results of their work on vision science research, services of rehabilitation and psychosocial aspects of vision impairment. Presentations will be in the format of symposia, continuing education courses, oral and poster presentations, as well as "R&R-Sessions".

Above all, we invite you to experience Montreal’s festive, flavorful and adventurous way of life. Discover the many faces of this bilingual and multicultural city renowned for its scientific scene, world-class university network and joie de vivre.

We are looking forward to seeing you in 2008!
